Face care routine for sensitive skin

Sensitive skin causes a lot of trouble for those who have it. It reddens, stretches and it may react intensely to some cosmetics or environmental impacts. Because opinions say that sensitive skin is more and more common, many cosmetic companies develop special products for this problem. With the adequate daily routine one can reduce these unpleasant symptoms.

Sensitive skin is very often connected to the skin lacking grease, its dehydration and/or rosacea.

If your skin is dry and sensitive…

…it reacts poorly to environmental impacts. The cold and the sun dries the skins surface, making it rough and irritated. In these moments it is a very unpleasant feeling to touch your skin and the cream burns. When you develop your daily face care routine, it is important to bear in mind some principles. Washing this type of skin with water only, worsens its state, so you need to use facial milk for that. During the spring, summer and even on sunny autumn days you’ll need to apply a minimum 15 SPF sun lotion. At wintertime besides the protective cream, it is good if you have a big scarf that covers your face. You need to avoid hard scrubbing, like mechanical face scrubs, and every kind of dermabrasion procedures. Also avoid using any cosmetics that contain components that cause allergy or irritation.

The goal in the care of dry, sensitive skin is to compensate the grease and water scarcity. In most of the time if the grease and hydration levels go back to normal, the sensitivity of the skin decreases.

Morning care

Type of cosmetic: facial milk, alcohol-free face tonic

Always cleans your face with facial milk, because water dries it out and makes it irritated. Put facial milk for sensitive skin in your palm and carefully, with soothing movements apply it to your face. If the facial milk is too dense, mix it with some water! Wash it down best with a soft wet cotton pad or handkerchief. I think the handkerchiefs are more suitable since you can remove the facial milk more carefully and without scrubbing.

After cleansing dry your face with a towel, then apply the alcohol-free, calming face tonic. This is an essential step which is often left out, but the face tonic hydrates the skin excellently.

Type of cosmetic: hydrating cream with sunscreen

After the first step you can apply the daytime cream. In the summer this can be a sunscreen with 30-50 SPF and you should also choose the shadowy side on the street. ☺ If you spend the day where air conditioning is used, take a hydrating cream with you in case your skin starts feeling stretchy.

If you already have a cream that worked for you, but it doesn’t contain protection against the sun, you ought to look for a product that does have a high protection for the sunny days.

For the winter you will need a greasier, heavier cream, because this protects your skin against the dryness caused by the cold. It is important to apply the cream half an hour before leaving because it needs time to soak in.

make-upIt is hard to find appropriate make-up for sensitive skin, since it often reacts badly to color and aromatic substances. Moreover, the removal of the make-up can also be a cause for irritation. If you want to use make-up, choose mineral products or the ones developed especially for sensitive skin. It is best to apply your foundation with Beautyblender because then you won’t pull and drag your skin and your make-up will be even. With the Beautyblender you apply the foundation with a make-up sponge by patting and not scrubbing or smearing like with other brushes or make-up sponges.

Evening care

Whether you used make-up during the day or not, cleansing is the most important thing. Water only can be very irritating to your skin and it doesn’t remove all the impurities, so use facial milk as you did in the morning. After this apply tonic and a slightly greasier cream with calming effect.

Type of cosmetic: enzyme peeling

The greasiness of your nighttime cream depends on how dry your skin is. If your skin lacks only a little bit of grease, then let your cream be only slightly greasier then the one you use in the daytime. If you have wrinkles then it is probable that there is a lack of grease in the deeper layers also, this way you can apply a denser, oilier cream. When you feel that the cream isn’t soaking in, do a peeling.

Scrub neither the daytime nor the nighttime cream into your skin, use soft, soothing movements to apply it, this way you can avoid causing the flushing of the skin.

Supplementary care:

One can apply face masks on sensitive skin also. Masks that can be pulled down are more suitable then the creamy one. Or there are masks that look like a paper has been soaked in the substance. In any case you need a product that can be used on sensitive skin.

In case of rosacea and sensitive skin

Rosacea has many stages, ranging from a slight flush to dense and thick capillary vessels. It can be inherited, but the lifestyle also influences its appearance and stage. Rosacea can appear on greasy but also dry skin. In both cases you need to avoid cosmetics with irritating effect and extreme weather conditions.

The type of your skin determines the sort of the treatment, but you have to remember the rules for sensitive skin. Don’t wash with water only, don’t scrub or use cosmetics which contain a lot of aromatic substances.
